ATTU ISLAND, Alaska - Boards cover the lower windows of the Loran C station on Attu Island, during the decommissiong ceremony. The building at Massacre Bay, originally a Navy weather observatory was converted to a Loran A and then Loran C station in 1960 and the site will be hardened to a BRAC III level for possible use in the future as DoD and Coast Guard environmental clean up and Japanese soldier repatriation activites take place over the next five years. |

DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala.-- (left) Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Thomas Brown, a trumpet player with the Coast Guard Band in Groton, Conn., works with Vessel of Opportunity operators Richard Lowery and John Ryan, from Bayou La Batre, to use sub-surface oil surveillance gear near Dauphin Island in the southwestern corner of Mobile Bay, Ala. KODIAK, Alaska - Two petty officers from Air Station Kodiak monitor the propellors of an HC-130 Hercules aircraft as they start the engines in preparation for a logistics flight from Kodiak to St. Paul Island. One of the Air Station's four Hercules is conducting a search for four people missing from an aircraft in the King Salmon area while returning from Nome and this crew will also keep a sharp lookout while in the area. |

LONG BEACH, Calif. Ð Members from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles perform summersaults in their skit while a MH-65C Dolphin helicopter moves into hoist position during the 2010 Red Bull Flugtag. While the wire and paper mache helicopter was unable to fly, the real helicopter performed a rescue demonstration to the record-105,000 person crowd. The Flugtag, which means "flying day" in German, challenges participants to build and pilot homemade flying machines off a 30-foot high flight deck. |
